Court orders arrest of philanthropist

THE arrest of a millionaire philanthropist has been ordered. Colin Taylor, who owns the Foresters Arms pub at Beaumont, failed to appear in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to face a charge of not submitting his half-yearly manpower figures to the Economic Development department, as all businesses in Jersey have to do under the Regulation of Undertakings Law.

Mr Taylor allegedly failed to let the department know how many staff he employed for the second half of 2006 within 15 days of 31 December. Relief Magistrate Graham Boxall ordered his arrest with a bail option of £100. Contacted by the JEP, Mr Taylor said that he had not known he was due in court and would contact the department immediately. He added that he had not lived at the address on the ‘charge sheet’, which is presented to the court, for a number of years. Mr Taylor’s generosity and support for charitable causes is well known, and only last Saturday the JEP reported that he had paid for Islander Lee O’Brien, who is suffering from terminal cancer, to go to the FA Cup Final to see his beloved Chelsea play.
