Ferry captain sacked

THE captain of the HD Ferries ship involved in a collision with a Condor vessel almost two weeks ago has been sacked.

Northern Marine, who operate the ferries, have sacked the captain after suspending him pending an investigation into the accident on Friday 11 May. The managing director of HD Ferries, Chris Howe-Davies, declined to name the captain of the vessel or say why he had been sacked. But he said he had already been replaced, with the new captain having started work on Monday. Mr Howe-Davies said that no lasting damage had been caused by the accident, which led to the cancellation of sailings and left many passengers needing to make alternative arrangements at the last minute. No one was hurt in the collision and no serious damage was caused to either vessel.
