A MINIBUS driver who suffered a heart attack after being handcuffed and locked up by police for jumping a red light was due to be flown by air ambulance to hospital in London today.
Two tourists - a Methodist minister and her new husband - have backed up the driver’s claims that the policeman was ‘really agitated’ and had over-reacted to the incident. They believe the ’small policeman’ panicked when he saw the size of the driver, 58-year-old Richard Cocks, who is about 6 ft 5 in tall and weighs about 20 stones. The driver was arrested at about 9.30 am last Friday after allegedly driving the minibus through a red light at the Gloucester Street junction of the Esplanade. Following his release from Police Headquarters after three hours in custody, he later went to the General Hospital, as he had not been feeling well since his arrest. And he was immediately admitted to the critical care unit because he had suffered a heart attack.
