VIOLENCE erupted on a St Saviour housing estate last night after Liverpool’s defeat at the hands of AC Milan in the Champions League final.
States police officers responded in force following reports of a brawl at Clos Gosset and said that they had been confronted by an angry and threatening mob. A number of those arrested were in Liverpool FC shirts and officers believed that the fans were fighting among themselves. A force spokesman said that CS spray was used on three men before order was restored. Three officers were injured in scuffles and one drew his baton as he attempted to arrest one of those fighting. In all, six men were arrested aged between 18 and 41, but no charges have yet been brought as investigations continue. Last night’s response was sparked when residents on the estate called 999 to report a disturbance. Officers arrived at 11.30 and it took an hour for order to be fully restored.
