News from the Jersey Evening Post

New chairman for the Arts Centre

THE former chief officer of Planning is the new chairman of the Jersey Arts Centre Association.

John Young, who served on the Arts Centre committee as treasurer between 2002 and 2005, stood uncontested for the position at last night’s agm. Former chairman Steve Haigh stood down last night after two years at the top. Mr Young said his predecessor has ‘put in place a really good governance framework’ and he is now looking forward to moving on from there. ‘It’s not about taking over, it’s about embracing,’ said Mr Young. ‘I see my role as facilitating and encouraging. ‘Arts in Jersey is very vibrant, so it is about capturing that energy and then moving forward. We must keep the current audience base as well as trying to add a new group of supporters for the future. Broadening the appeal of the arts is one of the things I would like to do in my period as chairman. I want to embrace all of the arts that add value to Jersey’s community.’
