THE States police say they fully intended to help the tourists who were left stranded when a coach driver was arrested for jumping a red light.
They have also said they are ’sorry’ to hear that the man, Richard Cocks, had a heart attack after being released from custody. He has been flown to the UK for specialist treatment. But they are declining to name the officer who made the arrest and who has been accused of over-reacting by Mr Cocks and by passengers on his minibus. In a statement, Supt Shaun du Val said: ‘The arrested man was driving a minibus which contained two passengers. We intended to make alternative arrangements for the passengers but, before we could do so, one of the passengers got on the vehicle’s radio and effectively beat us to it. The main thing is that they were not delayed unduly. ‘The arrested man spent just over two hours in police custody before being released in to the care of his employer, who we had asked to collect him.
