Call to investigate officers’ behaviour

A CALL has been made for an independent inquiry to investigate police behaviour following the arrest of a coach driver for jumping a red light.

Deputy Collin Egré has called for Home Affairs Minister Wendy Kinnard to order a full, independent investigation into how the police treat people after learning what happened to Richard Cocks when he was arrested on 18 May. Mr Cocks was handcuffed and locked up after being stopped for the traffic offence, while his passengers looked on in amazement. Later the same day Mr Cocks was admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack and had to be airlifted to the UK. ‘There needs to be a full and independent investigation into the approach of the police as a result of what apparently happened to Mr Cocks,’ said Deputy Egré.
