Deputy rebuked for behaviour at dinner

A STATES Member has been criticised for his behaviour at a gathering of business leaders on Thursday.

Deputy Geoff Southern was one of 450 people who attended the Institute of Directors annual debate at the Hotel de France. He has been criticised for talking throughout the debate, which focused on the future development of St Helier, and for his general behaviour. He has apologised, but has refused to comment on whether alcohol played a part in his behaviour. Former IoD chairman John Henwood, who was sitting at a table close to the Deputy’s, said: ‘I was disappointed that Deputy Southern and his companions seemed to be more interested in their own conversation than listening to the panel of speakers.
