JERSEY is continuing to win the battle against MRSA thanks to its aggressive search and destroy policy.
While hospitals in England continue to fight a war of attrition against the superbug, there were no cases of blood infection recorded in Jersey last year. That keeps the Island at the top of the best performing health services in Britain. The year before, Jersey also featured high in national league tables with three cases. Only four out of 106 English NHS Trusts, which manage the hospitals in their areas, had fewer cases than Jersey on a like-for-like basis. Elsewhere in today’s paper, Dr Ivan Muscat, the consultant microbiologist charged with combating MRSA in Jersey, talks about the efforts being made to make sure the incidence of serious MRSA infection remains very low.
