ROMERILS increased their lead at the top of the NatWest Weekend Cricket League Premier Division following a four-wicket victory against Caesareans on Saturday.
They lost early wickets but Romerils’ Jon Prince and Jamie Brewster restored order with a fourth-wicket partnership of 85 runs - Prince hitting four boundaries and a 6 on his way to 45 while Brewster remained unbeaten on 68 after seven 4s and three 6s as Romerils reached their target with 12.4 overs to spare.
Peter Blackburn took three wickets for 24 runs in a nine-over spell, including two maidens, helping to restrict Caesareans to 35 for 4 at one stage.
The Caesareans finished on a respectable 182 for 9 in 45 overs, with Elanco top-scoring with an undefeated 33 off 34 deliveries in 43 minutes.
Romerils, who increased their lead at the top of the table to 45 points, have played a game more than champions and second-placed Fairbairn SCF.
St Ouen moved up two places to third after they took a maximum 40 points against Rathbones OVs at Grainville.
Ward Jenner, who top-scored with 75, and Bobby Minty (26) put on the only notable partnership for OVs, 81 runs for the fourth wicket as OVs were all out for 176 in 41.3 overs.
St Ouen bowler Karl Moyse mopped up the OVs’ tail with five clean-bowled victims for 15 runs in 5.3 overs.
Dave Morfee and Mark Tribe put on 101 runs for the first wicket in St Ouen’s reply, the Saints reaching their target in 27.5 overs with Tribe unbeaten on 87 off 86 deliveries.
Morfee hit 56 with Clint Irons unbeaten again with 22 runs off 30 balls.
