A MAN who was rescued at sea last week has claimed that sloppy and thoughtless fishermen are putting lives at risk by discarding nets overboard.
John Turner and two others had to be rescued on Sunday when their 24ft boat’s propeller became snarled by netting as they lifted lobster pots among rocks west of the Ecréhous. ‘It is professional fishermen and it puts people’s lives in danger,’ he said. ‘We were in among the rocks in an eight-foot swell and could have ended up having a nasty accident. It is just carelessness and untidiness to throw nets over the side of boats.’
