JEC boss to retire after 15 years

MIKE Liston, the chief executive of Jersey Electricity, is to stand down later this year.

Mr Liston, who has been chief executive of the company for the past 15 years, says that he feels he has achieved what he set out to do and that the company is in a strong position.

‘Fifteen years is long enough for the organisation and for the individual,’ he said. ‘As many people know, I had a major health scare three years ago. I feel that I have achieved all that I wanted to do and all that I can.’

His decision follows the announcement, reported last month, that the current chairman, Derek Maltwood, is to stand down at the annual general meeting on 5 March.

Mr Maltwood, who has been on the JEC board for the past 20 years, as chairman for the past ten years, will be succeeded by Geoffrey Grime, who has also been a board member for a number of years.

The post of chief executive, which currently earns a basic salary of £182,000 per annum plus bonuses and benefits, will be advertised both locally and nationally, although Mr Liston said that at least three of his colleagues were ‘in a strong position’.
