Herbert wins ninth GB cap

JERSEY’S Beckie Herbert played in Great Britain hockey ladies’s fifth and final Test match of their tour of Australia yesterday, the England international winning her ninth GB cap in a 1-0 defeat.

Herbert played in all the Tests, apart from Saturday’s abysmal 5-2 defeat, and appears to have given herself a good chance of selection for the Beijing Olympics as official Danny Kerry, far happier after being so scathing of the previous day’s performance, said: ‘We have learned a great deal in our time here and played some good games.

‘The team now fully understands the importance of detail and application in the remaining months of preparation’.
