A MAN who lived at Haut de la Garenne during the Occupation says that the building should not be demolished despite its current links with child abuse.
Stanley Barnard was living there during the Occupation when he was a Jersey resident.
‘There were strict rules, and some staff were quick to use the strap as a punishment, but it was a pretty decent home while I was there. I had some happy times it was not all misery. At least it gave me a roof over my head when my mother died in 1940,’ he said.
