Parishioners asked to approve £15,000 pension referendum

TOWN electors will be asked tonight to back plans for a £15,000 referendum on the future of pensions for parish employees.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft and the Procureurs du Bien Public, who control the purse-strings, want electors to have their say on introducing a defined contribution scheme for future members of staff. There are no proposals on the table to alter the pension provision of existing employees.

Mr Crowcroft said: ‘I think that this is such an important issue, and the sums are so big in terms of the liabilities, that there needs to be much greater participation than can be achieved through a parish assembly.’

The proposal to be put to an assembly to be held at the Town Hall at 7 pm.
