HOCKEY - Inter-insular action: Jersey won three, lost three and drew three matches at the Investec Inter-insulars on Saturday. The men’s 1sts came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 and the ladies’ 1sts managed a 1-1 draw against a much improved Guernsey side. Other results - men’s 2nds: Jersey won 3-1; 3rds: Jersey lost 5-1; 4ths: Jersey won 4-1; 5ths (Vets): Jersey won 2-1; 6ths: Jersey lost 6-1. Ladies’ 2nds: Jersey lost 2-1; 3rds: 0-0 draw.
BADMINTON - Mariana Agathangelou went out in the second round of the Polish International Championships with Dean George in the mixed doubles. They had beaten Lukasz Barszczewski and Aleksandra Walaszek in the opening round 21-10, 21-13 but lost to the top seeds, and eventual winners, Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Kostiuczyk 21-18, 21-14. In the women’s doubles, Agathangelou and Gabby White lost to Japan’s Yu Wakita and Seiko Yamada 21-13, 21-14 in the first round.
ATHLETICS - Jersey triumph: Jersey were the overall winners of the Primary Schools’ cross-country inter-insular on Saturday with team wins in the Year 5 and Year Six girls’ and boys’ events.
Wilson Trophy
Veteran Glenn Robinson won the JSAC 5 km handicap race for the Wilson Trophy on Saturday in 20.03 min. Terri O’Donoghue was second overall and top lady, finishing in 22.04 min with under-13 Oliver Terry in third with a time of 19.15 min.
SWIMMING - Mini gala: Mia Ritzema, in the 11 years’ age group, took six wins from six races to win the overall best girl trophy for the second year in succession at the Jersey Swimming Club Mini Age Group Gala on Saturday. Ryan Paterson won the overall best boy trophy for his results in the 11 years’ group. Other overall winners - 8 years and under: Francesca Mallett and Aaron Tostevin; 9 years: Georgia Houghton and Joshua Gallichan; 10 years: Mary Perkins and Alexander Cornish.
Development gala: The AIB Tigers Swimming Club Highland Spring Development Gala Top Boy was 10-year-old Alex Johnson and the top girl Madeleine Corcoran (9). Top Le Mourier swimmer was Isabel Atherley and the Endeavour Trophy went to Ella Williams.
GYMNASTICS - County competition: Regent Gymnastics Club competed at the Hampshire County Club Grades Six and Five at the weekend with the highlight being Shannon Huby’s silver medal at Grade Five. Emily Durance finished fourth in the same grade and both now qualify for the Hampshire team to compete in the Regional Finals on 13 April.
VOLLEYBALL - Jets fire: Insurance Corporation Jets beat 2e2 Tigers 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) in the IC Volleyball Ladies’ League yesterday. 2e2 Panthers beat Gunsite Juniors 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-7). In the Mixed League Usual Suspects Too beat Peter Green Builders 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) and Walkers beat McSteam 3-2 (21-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-11).
SHOOTING - Davy peaks: Maurice Davy was High gun with 45 ex 50 in Crabbe Clay Pigeon Club’s 50 Bird Sporting yesterday. Other winners - A Class: Keith Pike 42; B Class: Howard Durell, Ian Averty and Steve Gallichan 39; C Class: Fernando Carvalho 32; Veteran: John Bedford 38.
Richardson aims high: The Jersey Rifle Association Jersetoco team event was won by St Helier with St Ouen runners up and the Non Natives team in third. Daniel Richardson was top scorer with 104.17 and Colin Mallett second on 103.10.
De la Haye firing: Jon de la Haye was High Gun and winner of Class AAA in Lecq Clay Target Club’s 100 Bird Sporting yesterday with 90 ex 100. Second in that class was Ashley Le Sech on 86. PETANQUE - Junior Championship: Jacob Romeril won the first round of the Jersey Petanque Association Junior Championship 12-16 years’ age group with two wins +13 on Saturday. Keely Guegan was second with two wins -1. In the 7-11 years’ group, Gabriella Martin leads the way with two wins +8; Wesley Bowen is second with two wins +4 and James Lawrence and Marie Guegan in equal third on two wins +2.
CYCLING - Mountain bike racing: In the last race of the CCC Children’s Mountain Bike Malzard and Hutcheson Series, held at Les Platons, there were wins for Aimee Lutz and Oliver Daniels in the up to five years age group. Other winners - 6/7 years: Indi Malzard and Luc Mon Petit Le Brun; 8/9 years: Phoebe Percival and Harry Garnham; 10/11 years: Nikita Connan and Hugh Percival.
Wojtkiewicz wins: Caesarean Cycling Club’s Adam Wojtkiewicz won the first 25 mile time trial of the new season with clubmates Kevin Pilley and Helen Goulding making it a clean sweep for CCC, winning in the veteran’s and ladies’ classes.
GOLF - Cornic content: Tony Cornic, 7 handicap, won the Samares Golf Society Stableford at Les Mielles yesterday with 41 points. Jerry King, 15 hcp, was second on 39 and Kenny Mitchell, 5 hcp, third on 37.
Four times champions: Jersey Senior (over 55) team members Terry Smith and Mickey Byrne won the Moorings Hotel Jersey Foursomes Championship on Saturday for the fourth time, having first won in 1977. They beat Gavin O’Neill and Christy McLaughlin in the final at the Royal Jersey course. CI junior champion, Jersey Western’s Paul Aitkens partnered by La Moye junior Josh Ozard beat Royal Jersey pair John and Dennis Le Couilliard the handicap final.
Hainsworth medals: Captain, Stuart Hainsworth, 20 hcp, won Les Ormes GC’s March Monthly Medal on Sunday with a net score of 59. Glen Arnett, 25 hcp, was second on 67 and Shaun Clark, 13 hcp, third.
L’Etacq Cup: Graeme Robertson, 11 hcp, won Les Mielles Golf Club’s L’Etacq Cup on Saturday with a net 69 as Alan Porter, 6 hcp, took second and Ian O’Brien, 13 hcp, third.
MOTOR SPORT - Mills wins trophy: In the second event of the Moto-x season, Charley Mills on his Deans Yamaha won the BLF Racing Ltd trophy of the day in the small wheel 85 cc class yesterday. Matthew Rayson was second with Lee Le Viellez in third. Dale Campbell was superb in the Adult A group and grand final, winning all three races.
Sorel karting: In the second Jersey Kart and Motor Club race of the season held at Sorel yesterday, there were wins for Harry Torpy (Cadet Comer), Sam Allen (Cadet Honda), Struan Moore (Junior Max), Edward Verrechio (Senior Max), and Simon Bonny (125 cc Open).
SAILING - Steve Pearl and partners’ Less Xpense won the second race of the St Helier Yacht Club Coastal Series on Saturday with Aurora (Nigel Guenier) second and X2C (Bob Milner) third.
In the fourth race of the Pricewaterhouse Coopers Spring Series, Dave Jones’ Jackana was first in Class I with Jaya (Neil Maclachlan) second and Rhys Perkins’ Abracadbra third. In Class II, Jeff Speller’s 2Farr won with Steve Pearl’s Less Xpense second and MicMac (Ben Jones) third. Allen Brown’s, The Dogs, won the Sports Boats class as the sole entry.
Stower wins: Darren Stower sailing with Mike Winspear won both Hobie A Fleet races in the RCIYC Hobie Fleet Spring Series event at St Aubin’s Bay yesterday. Second was Ian Cabot and daughter Zoe with third place going to Grant Neale and Neil Burton. First in the B Fleet races were Aaron Le Cornu and Kenny Snell with Luc Richard and Eileen Allen second and equal third Yvonne Winspear with Jo Moss and Jeremy Smith crewed by Giles Corbin. All crews raced Hobie 16’s.
