Spence in good time

CAESAREAN Cycling Club dominated the Jersey Cycling Association’s ten-mile time-trial on Sunday, with Chris Spence claiming the overall crown.

A large field of over 50 riders contested the event over a course from La Mare along the coast road to Gorey and back, and it was Island Games cyclist Spence, returning from racing in California, who finished 30 seconds clear of the field in 22 min 43 sec.

Clubmates Ali Cann and James Amy ensured that it was a CCC top three, while in the veteran category Dave Mayman (CCC) took the honours. He was the only veteran to finish in under 24 minutes, with a well-paced ride demonstrating that he is back to top form after injury in 2007.

Just eight seconds behind was Velo Sport Jersey’s Andy Munns, while club-mate Mark Nish, showing good form on his return from injury, was third in the veteran class.

Helen Goulding’s good early-season form brought another win for CCC as she took the ladies’ crown from last year’s winner, Jemima ‘Jim’ Davis (VSJ), with a winning margin of 15 seconds. VSJ’s Jo Gagnerie claimed third place.

A powerful ride by CCC junior Chris Seviour in 24.26 put him among the faster veterans and earned him the junior title.
