Jersey Rugby Club 2nds retained the Sugden Cup by 19-10 at St Peter on Sunday.
But they were made to work hard for their win by a Jersey United Banks who refused to be steam-rollered and who at times were the dominant side.
Banks coach Len McAviney said afterwards: ‘That was a damn good side we sent out there. I don’t believe there’s another team in the league who could have matched them as closely as we did today.’
It was a sentiment shared by the Banks’ captain, Peter Haworth, who added: ‘It was nice to give them such a close game and I felt that at 12-10 down the match could have gone either way.’
