MRSA: Hospital may curb patient visits

FRIENDS and relatives could soon be barred from visiting ‘high-risk’ loved ones in hospital under radical new plans to combat the ever-present danger of MRSA.

New restrictions to limit access to wards are being considered by Health’s infection control team as part of a raft of measures to tackle hospital-acquired infections.

Consultant microbiologist Dr Ivan Muscat, who is leading the team, explained that a new infection control strategy was being developed and should be finished later this month.

He revealed that he was considering restricting movements in and out of wards in certain high-risk cases.
