SHOPS are gearing up for a bumper Bank Holiday weekend as Islanders rush to buy ahead of the start of GST on Tuesday.
Some retailers are having special sales and others say that it has been like Christmas over the last few weeks as Islanders hit the high street to beat the deadline.
‘Big ticket’ items such as furniture, flatscreen TVs, laptops and fridges have been flying off the shelves. Technology store Fotosound in Charing Cross is one of those electrical stores that’s experiencing huge sales at the moment.
Proprietor Barry Jenkins said: ‘The public are voting with their wallets. It is like Christmas. I have never known anything like it.’
