GST day one - Rally targets those who voted for new tax

GST could still be scrapped, and so could the politicians who backed it - that was the message of an anti-goods and services tax rally held in the Royal Square yesterday.

More than 250 Islanders turned out to hear the newly formed political group Time 4 Change speak out against the three per cent tax on the day it was launched.

Opening the event, organiser Montfort Tadier told the crowd that the focus was on the ‘guilty’ politicians who had voted for GST and whose pictures were displayed on large boards in the square.

Meanwhile Jersey’s main retailers insist that they are not profiteering from GST.

Three of the Island’s biggest retailers said that they had been as fair as possible to their customers since the new tax came into operation yesterday.
