SIXTY-THREE years after being freed from the German Occupation, Islanders showed that Liberation Day is still a cherished part of their lives.
More than 1,000 people, both young and old, congregated in Liberation Square and many more had spilled into the surrounding roads to celebrate the moment Jersey was freed in 1945.
Applause erupted when the soldiers who recreated the famous scenes jumped from their tank and dived into the crowds.
It has become traditional for the Territorial Army volunteers play the parts of the British liberators, Force 135, and yesterday was no exception.
Flags were waved furiously as the troops threw sweets into the cheering crowds, just as the troops had done 63 years before them.
