HUNDREDS of Islanders seized one last opportunity over the weekend to fly in one of the most famous planes ever to take to the skies.
They took off in a DC-3 Dakota to enjoy trips around Jersey and over the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy.
And while they took a nostalgic journey back in time, hundreds more admired the iconic aircraft as it roared overhead.
It was the last time that the DC-3, which is owned by Islander Mike Collett, will be able to carry passengers in Jersey. From mid-July, new European Union rules come into force that impose stringent safety regulations on old aircraft that the Dakota will not be able to meet.
Melanie Hilton, who was the cabin crew over the weekend, said that many of those who went up in the plane found it an overwhelming experience. One couple even got engaged.
