UNICEF UK has thanked Islanders for their support after the Jersey Oversees Aid Commission was able to give £75,000 towards their work in Burma.
Yesterday Overseas Aid gave £25,000 to help people affected by Cyclone Nargis, but was reluctant to give the remainder of the money until it was confident that it would be spent in the right way.
Since then, Unicef says it has been assured of this and has been able to provide the funds.
Unicef UK deputy executive director Fiona Hesselden today said: ‘We are extremely grateful to the people of Jersey for this donation, which will really impact on our ability to reach communities with life-saving supplies.
‘We know from experience that children are less able to physically defend themselves against such forces of nature and are highly vulnerable to the dangers that follow.
