UK group begins review of children in custody

A GROUP has arrived in Jersey to carry out a detailed review into the way young offenders are treated while in custody.

The Howard League for Penal Reform will visit the Greenfield’s centre for young offenders, the young offenders unit at La Moye Prison and attend the Youth Court this week.

The group, which works for ‘humane and rational reform’ of the penal system, were invited by Senator Stuart Syvret before he was sacked as Health Minister, following his concerns about the existing system of care services.
