Netball’s UK League ambitions shattered

0549351_cropped.jpgTHE dream of Jersey continuing in the South West Premier Netball League has been shattered.

The Island side have decided to withdraw because of lack of sponsorship.

Having gained promotion to this level in 2007, J United continued to impress and this season were the first side to retain their place in the league.

However, despite being one of the most popular sports for women in Jersey, and having produced a senior England netballer in Serena Guthrie, sponsors have not been forthcoming.

The Jersey Netball Association decided at their council meeting that their only option was to withdraw from the league.

‘We all decided that however much we wanted to be involved in this top flight of netball, it was not going to be possible,’ said JNA president Jackie Nelson.
