From Gordon Harris. LIKE a bunch of petulant teenagers that need a good shake by the shoulders, Deputy Guy de Faye and his department stumble along blindly throwing away taxpayers’ money in such a cavalier fashion that it really does beggar belief. There must have been a departmental meeting to discuss the reasoning behind
the redesign, at which time (you would
have thought) at least one person would have realised that input by the emergency services would be paramount, given that the avenue is a main arterial route.
It is not a pedestrian crossing point and if there is a concern regarding cars exiting the car park trying to cross the road to head back east, why not put in some temporary traffic lights and see how it goes before committing to any costly works (that is assuming that there is, in fact, a problem).
The problem with this latest debacle is that it comes at a time when the tax-paying public and businesses are continually lectured that money is tight and resulting tax changes are implemented. It is a fundamental duty of States departments to act with due care and diligence on all matters, but particularly when it comes to spending vast sums of money. No wonder there is so much public despondency when money is wasted on projects such as this.
Save money by cancelling school milk but spend £1 million on a total unnecessary road redesign! This is nothing but gross incompetence which no amount of hand-wringing and sheepish apologies can excuse. 13 La Grande Pouclée,
