Green’s Fantastic feat

00561890_cropped.jpgREGULAR visitor to the Island, Liverpool Harriers’ Peter Green, was the clear winner of yesterday’s Fantastic North Run, finishing just under four minutes ahead of his nearest rivals.

There was a sprint to the line for second place in the 13.1-mile race, organised by the Jersey Hash House Harriers, with Andy Murfin just taking it ahead of fellow Jersey Spartan athlete Jon Coote.

As expected, Jersey’s leading distance runner Jo Gorrod won the women’s race although she was in some discomfort at the end with an injured knee. Alderney’s Nikki Neal was second and Amanda Brown, third.

Green (32), who finished in 1.14.17, said: ‘I felt all right and was surprised how easy it was, once I took the lead, that no-one challenged me.’

It was the 20th anniversary of the half-marathon event, with over 400 entrants and 337 finishers.
