HERM is up for sale with a price tag of £15 million.
The lease for the tiny island has been put on the market after Adrian and Pennie Heyworth, who have run Herm for 28 years, decided it was time to move on.
The asking price for the 40-year lease includes a manor house, a 13th century chapel, 80 acres of farmland and a dairy herd, and what is thought to be the world’s smallest jail.
And the lucky buyer’s neighbours will include billionaires Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay, who bought Brecqhou, a tiny island off nearby Sark, in 1993 for £2.33 million.
When Mrs Heyworth’s father, Major Peter Wood, took on the lease in 1949, the island was derelict and lacked electricity and a formal road network. But over the years, Herm – which is 1½ miles long and ½ mile wide – has become popular with visitors and it now has a clean water supply, sewage system and a small road network.
