ARTS cuts of up to £500,000 could limit the Jersey Opera House’s programme of events and see the building deteriorate.
That is the view of Opera House chairman Christopher Lakeman after hearing the findings of the States Spending Review: Emerging Issues report.
In the report, Comptroller and Auditor General Chris Swinson recommends that the States should cut spending on the Opera House, St James’s, the Arts Centre and Fort Regent by £500,000.
But Advocate Lakeman said that this was a major concern for all four buildings and he would be seeking a meeting with Education Minister Mike Vibert to discuss matters.

All work and no PLAY - an extremely shortsighted view of art, culture and business acumen that can be so typical of name making anti-culturists who appear hell-bent on not only depleting art, but Jersey heritage, too!
If wealthy Islanders can fund £ 15 million to run a gallery, couldn’t they support the Arts rather than just art ?
