THE Jersey branch of personal loans company CitiFinancial stopped lending to new customers yesterday.
As reported earlier this week, global parent company Citigroup is planning to close all 49 CitiFinancial loan centres around the UK and its Sunderland operations centre as part of a ‘business realignment’.
The decision will affect 670 jobs in all.The CitiFinancial office in Sand Street currently employs four staff. Citigroup say that existing loans and repayment agreements will not be affected.A spokesman from Citi’s head office said that he could not say categorically whether the Jersey office would close because the UK law requires a 30-day consultation period before a final decision is made.
‘We are making a proposal to shut the offices and are consulting individually to decide what the future will be,’ he said.*Picture: Citygroup offices at Canary Wharf
