From Sonya Thrush.
I COULD not believe what I was reading (JEP, 17 May). Environment Minister Freddie Cohen was ‘cleared’ over his Les Ormes approval.
Procedures were followed correctly, they tell us. The neighbours were unaware of the application. As a result, there were no objections to the application and it proceeded smoothly through the process.
Oh, how convenient! Yes, but where was the right to vote for the neighbours? They had no rights and did not get to approve or disapprove of the application.
So tell me, how do States Members get away with it every time, passing the buck onto someone else? It makes my blood boil.
If I or anyone else were to have a party, then we would let the neighbours know, out of common courtesy, that there might be a bit of noise.
Do they think we are stupid? It is they who are stupid to think that we believe everything they tell us.
The time has come now for me to stand up and air my views and help any way I can with the time4change candidates. Time and energy are my best contributions. I believe that there are many like me who would support the candidates who come forward.
You hear it everywhere, ‘I am fed up with that lot in the States’. Well, do something about it. Stand up and be counted. Go out to vote.

Regarding the Les Ormes planning application that some of the residents were not aware of.
A simple solution surely would be for the applicant to have to write to all residents within a certain given area to notify of details of any plans they have rather than a notice posted on a board that is open to the elements and could easily be damaged/vandalised therefore preventing any nearby residents from seeing it.
I know that these notices are also posted in the JEP but not everyone buys it!
