Quintet ready for high calibre competition

0558720_cropped.jpgJersey’s five gymnasts will also compete on the Grande-Terre easterly island but will be based in Saint-Francois.

It is in this event that the team boasts it’s first male competitor in Jersey Gymnastic Club’s Matthew Hill.

‘Matt started gymnastics when he was eight and quickly progressed through the squads and his strengths are rings and pommel horse,’ explained coach James Evans.

‘For this competition he has trained very hard and if he performs his routines clean on the day we could see some very good scores. ‘We are both confident and looking forward to some great competition.’

Hill will be joined by Regent Gymnastics Club’s debutantes Elizabeth Appleyard, Louise Mollet, and Charlotte Sweeney while Lisa Day returns and will no doubt look to improve on her solid performance last year which earned her 23rd.

Ladies’ coach, Julia Falle, said: ‘Over the last six months we’ve held various competitions and the team has been selected based on how they performed in those.

‘It’s going to be very interesting to see how they get on but dealing with the heat is going to be the hardest thing. The gymnastics is always of such a high standard so they will be aiming to give it their best and score some PBs.’
