IT beggars belief to read about the road fiasco at Bel Royal, at a time when we are having to pull in our belts and cope with rising costs, pay GST and stomach the pitiful excuse that we could not afford to give our children school milk.
The cost of this badly managed episode, among others, is made all the worse as Jersey advertises its expertise in financial matters. Cannot our services add up and communicate on a common sense level?
How can these people keep their well-paid jobs with all the perks? Private businesses would not stay in business with such mismanagement – and they provide the tax to service these grandiose schemes. And those working for them do not enjoy the States working week of 37 hours.
The £980,000 cost of this road alteration will not be the end of it as there will no doubt be a big hike for the alterations. Who is responsible if an emergency vehicle hits the kerb and turns over? Would it not have been easier and cheaper to warn of a black spot and curb the speed of traffic to the law of 40 mph? How many more similar schemes are in the pipeline?
If we have so much to waste, why is it not saved, or diverted to the hospital where waiting time can be up to 12 weeks, or provide the much-needed cash for a pending flu epidemic? Is it any wonder that the population is so demoralised and fed up, especially the older generation who skimped and saved and now have to pay more as they are in the grips of spendaholics.
Please, Angry Men, do something to stop the rot. Your Island needs you, together with some angry women. Heads should roll and be seen to roll. The States should save and cut their coat according to their cloth. I am sure a lot of States savings could be made on travel. Are their journeys really necessary?
This is from one angry young woman. Are there any others?

I couldn’t agree more with this article. It is not confined to Jersey the Western world over is full of mediocre Politicians and Bureaucrats, whose best qualification is simply that they are true experts at squandering money and opportunity as if both were going out of fashion. Sadly I see no chance of this situation improving until the time comes, when morals return to a semblance of decency and normality.
