JERSEY needs ‘to find its niche in the new world’ if it is to survive the ongoing market turmoil, a senior City banker told businesses last week.
Angela Knight, who chairs the British Bankers Association, said that Jersey’s ability to combat global competition would be the key to its future.
Speaking at the Institute of Directors Jersey annual debate on Thursday evening, she said that in the current economic climate smaller countries and companies would be squeezed by larger ones muscling in on areas that they had previously ignored.
Ms Knight, who arrived in the Island after attending a London court hearing on bank charges, said that governments were starting to blame the industry for economic problems.
