‘Restraints’ at home confirmed

00551279_cropped.jpgPOLICE have confirmed for the first time that ‘home-made restraints’ have been discovered during their search of Haut de la Garenne.

One pair was found by builders in the grounds in 2003 and left where they had been discovered. Another pair of what police say appear to be home-made restraints was found during a search of one of the cellars.

In a detailed report of the three-month investigation at the former children’s home, that was released yesterday, police say that among the items found in the grounds and cellars by the forensic team were burnt clothing, toys and bed sheets. They also found some coins, the dates of which might provide more information.

The report, which follows a number of highly critical national media reports about the inquiry, did not include any reference to the home-made restraints, but deputy police chief Lenny Harper confirmed that they had been found.
