DEPUTY de Faye’s decision to change the drainage law policy in order to assist developer David Sheppard is a gross abuse of his ministerial powers.
Now we find that his decision was made against the advice of his most senior officers. His comment, quoted in the JEP of 22 May, ‘What is the point of being a minister in this position if you can’t use the law?’ beggars belief. Is this the sort of man we want as a minister?
Deputy de Faye’s decision will have far reaching ramifications. It effectively takes away the rights of property owners – so much for ‘personal choice’ and ‘freedom of choice’ which Deputy de Faye was so keen on when it came to seatbelt legislation.
We can only hope that the States Assembly will support Senator Ben Shenton in his efforts to have this ministerial decision rescinded. Uphill Cottage,
