Move to widen use of Esplanade funds

00550756_cropped.jpgFUNDS generated from the Esplanade Quarter should be extended to include urban areas next to St Helier, say the Council of Ministers.

They want to widen the condition that says all money generated from the Esplanade Quarter should be used in the regeneration of St Helier to include areas just outside the physical boundary of town.

Their amendment of the masterplan follows St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft’s proposal that the guaranteed payment of up to £75 million to the States from Harcourt developers must be used in the regeneration of St Helier.

Ministers want to widen this condition to include ‘adjacent urban areas’ as they believe the wording in the amendment is too constricted.
