Promotion deciders

00564465_2_cropped.jpgPROMOTION from ICC World Cricket League Division V will be decided, weather permitting, today.

And hosts Jersey, who face tournament favourites USA at the FB Fields, are looking forward to a titantic struggle for the right to play the winners of the other semi, Nepal or Afghanistan, in tomorrow’s final.

Both finalists will win promotion to the Division IV tussle in Tanzania this October.

‘It should be a really good game as the USA have been in good form and so have we,’ said Jersey captain Matt Hague. ‘There is a lot to play for and to get into the final and go to Tanzania would be something really special so we’ll all look forward to it and it should be great.’

The winners of today’s semi-final ties will not only progress through to tomorrow’s final at Grainville, but will also join Hong Kong, Fiji, Tanzania and Italy in the six-team Division IV in the Tanzanian capital of Dar Es Salaam from 4 to 11 October.

The top two teams from that tournament will then advance to Division III in Argentina next January from where the top two will qualify for the final ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2009. The top four Associate or Affiliate teams from the ICC World Cup qualifier will then book their place at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, to be staged in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
