Eye’s open tomorrow

wheel_cropped.jpgJERSEY’S first giant Ferris wheel opens for business tomorrow.

The 60-metre Jersey Eye will take 240 passengers on a 15-minute ride that circles four times and offers panoramic views of St Helier, Elizabeth Castle and St Aubin’s Bay.

The wheel was shipped from a special berth in Portsmouth on nine huge 20-metre trailers last week.
It stopped traffic along the Waterfront when it was transported with a police escort from the Harbour to its temporary home at Jardins de la Mer.

The nature of its five-month stay has been controversial, with concerns that the Jersey International Air Display would have to be cancelled and that residents had not been given the opportunity to object because the wheel bypassed the planning application process.

But, despite attacks on the attraction, the man who arranged its visit to the Island is confident that it will be a success. Paul Talbot (31) said: ‘It has been an exciting project from the start and has had its fair share of challenges, but the Jersey Eye has certainly grown on Jersey folk over the last week.’

Great, now we can see Belozane, Collette and the mess of the waterfront. Worth £7?

Lovely stuff, something else for tourists. Maybe the money should go to a community project - perhaps building a proper, permanent skate park or a play ground for local kids to enjoy. With projects like this getting the go-ahead, is it any suprise that kids are getting bored?? It’s a disapointment.

Should have put it down by the steam clock … then they could have advertised white elephant tours ;-)
