Jersey diver dies at Alderney wreck

A JERSEY diver has died as he worked on an ancient shipwreck off the coast of Alderney.

The man, who has not been named, died yesterday afternoon just days after work to excavate and restore part of the 400-year-old wreck began.

It is understood that the diver resurfaced after a successful dive and handed in his equipment before falling ill. By the time rescue measures had begun, the diver was already dead.

All dives at the site have been suspended pending a post-mortem.
