A DIVER who died minutes after working on a wreck off the coast of Alderney has been named as former Ambulance Service paramedic Peter Le Sauteur.
The 55-year-old collapsed shortly after resurfacing from a dive to survey a 400-year-old wreck which is being partially excavated and restored.
Today former colleagues of Mr Le Sauteur, who retired from the service only five weeks ago, paid tribute to a ‘kind-hearted man who was a friend to everyone’.
Ambulance station officer John Sutherland, who joined the service on the same day as Mr Le Sauteur 20 years ago, said: ‘Everyone is absolutely devastated.
‘Peter was one of those people who was loved by everyone. He was a fantastic person and probably our best paramedic. We have had so many people come in to work today even though they are not on duty just because they want to be with their colleagues.’
