DOUBLE-decker buses could make a return to Jersey.
Transport Minister Guy de Faye told the States this week that he had extended Connex’s contract for the scheduled and school bus services for three years.
Their deal was due to expire next year, but Deputy de Faye opted to extend it for a £100,000-a-year cost reduction, investment in new vehicles, more services on eastern routes in the mornings and afternoons and a commitment to look at hybrid vehicles and double-deckers.
He says that the department want to bring a double-decker bus to the Island for trials on the routes from town to Gorey and from town to the Airport.

How do you suppose a double decker bus will fit under a sunken road? better throw a few million more at it.
Denise you missed the article about the Tram! That would get you under the tunnel at a cost of £80 million! better get to raising Taxes so they can pay for it!!!!
They could make some ‘cost cutting’ savings to pay for changes. Oh no, I forgot, it doesn’t work like that.
The States’ corporate slogan should be ‘ A Penny saved is a Penny spent (on something else we didn’t need)’.
Guy you’re obviously too immature - sorry young to remember double deckers in the good old days.
Nice to see that you’ve thrown away a few million quid of ours by letting connex continue to run what is probably the worst bus servive in the E. U. nice one!!!
a double decker would be a great advantage to our buisiest routes but i would also like to see improvements to our routes from built up areas ie- #21 and #23 (to name my local area) but I think the bus service is also lackingg in other residential areas and also the fairs are so expensive compared to our uk coumterparts.
also how much is it costing the tax payer just to decide if this is a goo idea?
Hi Guy yes great extend connex for a year while you still can roll on October
I travelled on connex last week 3 adults 2 children from the centre of St Brelade’s bay to the top of the hill just past the large Checkers store
Total cost for about 3/4 of a mile £5.60 it must be the most expensive service in the world!!
Mike obviously hasn’t recently been to London, where it costs £2 per adult just to get on the bus!
As a regular commuter from Beaumont who has to stand at the stop and watch full buses go past, I welcome the additional bus on this route and applaud TTS for at least thinking about new options e.g. double deckers.
If so many more people are using the buses, they must be doing something right!
