Sprint to the finish

00190080_cropped.jpgTHE Credit Suisse Jersey Festival of Motoring 2008 roars into action tonight with the ever-popular Moonlight Sprints along Victoria Avenue.

Cars have been arriving for the three-day celebration of classic and vintage motoring all week to take their places alongside a host of fabulous local machines.

This year for the first time bikes will compete at the sprints and hill climbs alongside the cars.

Although the racing starts this evening, several of the cars attending the festival have been on show throughout today.

This morning, the touring cars, which do not race, were on display at St Peter’s Garden Centre, while the competition race machines were on public view in the People’s Park during scrutineering.

At seven o’clock tonight, a cavalcade of touring cars will set off down the Avenue, with the Moonlight Sprints following for the racers between 7.30 pm and 11 pm.

Tomorrow’s programme kicks off with the Westmount Hill Climb at 10 am, with the touring cars lined up for a static display at Jersey War Tunnels at the same time.

The hill climb continues through the day until 5 pm, while the touring cars move to the People’s Park at midday for an afternoon of fun activities, including the best period costume.

On Sunday, the touring cars are on display at Samarès Manor, with the main racing event, the Mount Bingham hill climb, happening between 10 am and 3 pm.

The touring cars do their final bit of static posing at the Living Legend, in St Lawrence, between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm.

The event has been organised jointly by the Jersey Old Motor Club and the Classic and Vintage Motor Racing Club.
