TEN D-Day veterans marked the 64th anniversary of the Normandy landings, in the Island yesterday.
The day began at 11.30 am, with the veterans and their partners congregating at the Cenotaph. They were then joined by the Band of the Island of Jersey and the Jersey Military Vehicle Club.
At noon, the veterans – including one from the UK who was on holiday in the Island – were introduced to the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache and the Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, both of whom laid wreaths to mark the occasion.
A one-minute silence was then held at 12.20 pm, with the last post and reveille played by Neil Britton.
The D-Day operation on 6 June 1944 was the largest single-day invasion of all time, with over 130,000 troops landing on the Normandy coast.
