Fairytale ending for Johnstone at La Moye

00566498_cropped.jpgZIMBABWE’S Tony Johnstone won the 29th Jersey Seniors Classic at La Moye yesterday afternoon thanks to two shots.

The first was this – a sublime 18ft putt from the rough on the edge of the green at the 16th, which went unerringly into the centre of the hole and returned him to a two shot lead with two holes to play.

The second was by his nearest rival, Scotland’s Ross Drummond, who had the chance to claw back to being one shot adrift on the 18th but ruined the chance by hitting a miserable looking putt as he jerked his head backwards and sent the ball no more than 4ft forward.

The hole, to his obvious displeasure, was another 3ft away. So, instead of putting pressure on Johnstone who still had two holes to play and was to bogey the 17th, Drummond had allowed the 52-year-old to march up the final green two shots clear of him and the rest of the field.
