British Isles crown for Greechan

indseygreechan08_cropped_2_cropped.jpgISLANDER Lindsey Greechan is the new British women’s outdoor bowls champion.

She achieved her career-best at the Belmont club in Belfast yesterday when she defeated the England champion Edna Bessell, 21-20, in the final of the singles championship.

Greechan, who is only 27, follows in the footsteps of her Jersey colleague Karina Bisson, who won the coveted British title two years ago - and she did so in style, after dropping the first 11 shots in the final.

‘In a way, this means more to me that winning the WIBC world indoor under 25 title a few years back,’ an emotional Greechan said last night. ‘The difference this time around was the support I had from the Jersey contingent.’

The Jersey team, in Belfast for the home international series that starts today, were out in force, and gave Greechan such intense vocal support that Bessell, from Yeovil, must have thought the world was against her
