Connex deal is ‘better’

00448397_cropped.jpgTHE States have got an improved deal by extending the contract of Connex to operate the Island’s bus services, according to Transport Minister Guy de Faye.

The Deputy said during questions in the States that Connex will be liable to pay more in penalties if it does not comply with the conditions of the contract in future.

He made the comments when answering questions from St Saviour Deputy Roy Le Hérissier, who wanted to know how the extended contract would act as an incentive to Connex to provide an improved service.

Deputy De Faye said: ‘Rather than incentives, we are talking about clear disincentives as there will be penalties if performance and efficiency targets are not met.’

I would love to know if anything was done about the over payment which was made to Connex at the start of their contract yet.
