JERSEY’S Matt Banahan will attempt to win his first international rugby trophy this evening when he lines up on the wing for England Saxons against Scotland B in the Churchill Cup final in Chicago.
Banahan, an England Sevens international and the second-top scorer in the Guinness Premiership in his first team debut season with Bath RFC, has made quite an impression in North America and is the tournament’s leading try scorer with five from the first two games against the USA and Ireland B.
‘Just being a part of the squad has been awesome,’ said Banahan who forms part of an impressive back line – but he and the rest of the squad are determined to end their tour with what would be a second successive final victory over the Scots.
It would certainly cap a fantastic season for the former Les Quennevais and Highlands student, with his club side reaching the Premiership play-offs and winning the European Challenge Cup.
