THE Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, is to face a vote of no confidence.
His role in the convicted paedophile Roger Holland affair, his Liberation Day speech and his role in the States are all under fire. In an unprecedented attack on the Island’s civic leader, the States are to be asked next month to request that the Queen remove him from office.
The move comes at a time when the Island’s establishment is already under fire. Next week the States are being asked to debate a vote of no confidence in the Council of Ministers and a vote of censure against Chief Minister Frank Walker over his handling of the recent debate on the Waterfront ‘masterplan’.
St Helier Deputy Shona Pitman has formally lodged the proposition, saying that it is about ‘inappropriate statements, actions and behaviour of an individual, the Island’s serving Bailiff, that have both brought his position into disrepute and significantly damaged the public’s confidence in its government as a result’.

About time too! How much longer can the ordinary working man and women in Jersey bear this financial burden? We have waited centuries (my ancestors and I) and at last justice is within sight! Thank you and espesially a big thank you to Stuart Syvret.
Yours a true blooded Jersey man
here here.. can not believe in this day and age, we still have a non elected person in charge of both the judiciary and the states.. reckon its about time Jersey declared itself a republic, and brought in real amendments to the states.. let the people of Jersey say who should the be head of the states…
Is it not time that regular tests were carried out on States’s Members to judge their sanity. Before the this year’s elections the prospective candidates should have to prove their mental stability. Also they should not receive a member’s payment greater than they earned in real life if voted in.
Sir Philip Bailhache has sacrificed a lucrative legal career to lead us in a most capable manner both legally and politically. It is another embarrassing episode brought about by a few half wits. It will be laughed out by the majority but sadly will once again be jumped upon by the gutter press.
